Don't become a Phishing Victim

Who loves getting SPAM emails? 🙋‍♀️🙄  I recently got this email from Shopify. I know better to check for all the signs but not everyone does. 😥

⚠️ So what are the warning signs so you don’t become a victim? I spoke to Andi S, an employee at shopify who recommends checking for the following! 

Misspellings, poor grammar, and style variations- Criminals don't take content style guides as seriously as professional web content writers. Pay attention to their spelling, capitalization, numbers, punctuation and formatting. 

Alarmist or overexcited tone- Watch for time-sensitive requests that try to scare you into acting without thinking

Check the email address. Phishing attempts can include URLs  that appear legitimate if you don't look too closely. Many phishing attempts use URLs that have been deliberately chosen to resemble a URL that you're already familiar with such as “Shopify”  

Communicate- If you are ever concerned about an email you received, and are unsure of the legitimacy you can always reach out to shopify to confirm the emails legitimacy. 

Lastly, 

If you are unsure of the authentication of the email. NEVER 

  • Visit a link.
  • Download a file.
  • Open an attachment.

Finale thoughts: The world is hard right now. Scammers will go out of their way to make a buck off you. When in doubt- ALWAYS ASK! 😘
